Business Profile

Began lawn maintenance in ‘99 with a compact car(bumper hitch), a small, 4ft. x 8 ft. trailer, a push mower, an electric trimmer, and an electric blower. Currently, we have 2 trucks, 2 trailers, a full compliment of commercial equipment for lawn maintenance and project work.

Passed the Alabama Landscaper's License (SLP) test in ’02 (’10 Permit #2013066348). Have been licensed since ’01 with the City of Mobile ('14 License #058448), with Mobile County (License #009058), with City of Semmes (License #9608001443), and have registered for a Certificate of Contractor (since Fall '13) with the State of Alabama.

By 2006, the revenue, equipment, and processes in place were  running smooth. Since the recession began in late 2008, I've endeavored to place my efforts into stream-lining the operations and reducing costs. The business sales revenues had been increasing by 20-30% or more each year, until the beginning of the economic recession in late 2008. Revenue (project installations) dropped 50% right away, but property maintenance has continued to grow about 5-10% in each year since 2010.

I started J&P Landscape in 1998. Decided early on not to try and compete with the large, multi-crew competitors. My focus is to provide high quality work to residential customers and business owners with whom I can have direct contact. We emphasize quality work with an eye on details, thoroughness and personal communication. We always desire to grow, but do not risk larger or longer term commitments beyond the availability of skilled & mature employees. We had a foreman until the October of 2019 and would bring on unskilled temporary help when needed for summer lawns or projects. Since then, my wife and I have been performing the work with some help from our son’s from time to time.
